We’ve had a lot of grim news about popular haunted attractions. like Dark Harbor and Terror Behind the Walls, canceling for Halloween 2020. But Universal Orlando Resorts is giving Halloween haunted house lovers a glimmer of hope by announcing that external auditions for scare actors are open until July 20, 2020.
According to WDW News Today, Universal Studios announced internal auditions in June, but the fact that they’re expanding it to look for others outside the park is a sign that, despite coronavirus, they’re planning to go ahead with their popular annual Halloween event.
Requirements
In case you’re interested in applying, they’re looking for the following:
- Candidates with slender to athletic builds
- Candidates in the following height ranges: 5’1″ and under; 5’1″-5’3″; 5’7″-5’9″; 5’10”-6′; and 6’1″ and over
Unfortunately, as WDW News Today pointed out, Universal has no need for anyone in the ranges of 5’4″-5’6″. So if you fall in that category, sorry. No external auditions for you.
I wonder if they found all the actors they needed in that range from the international auditions? No telling, but they need both haunted house and street performers. If you have any experience as a scare actor and want to apply, now’s the time!

Halloween Horror Nights 2020
We still don’t know what this year’s theme will be yet.
However, we do know they’ll do what they always do and bring together “stories and visions from the world’s most notorious creators of horror, from cinematic greats and crazed current cult favorites” to create a spooktacularly scary atmosphere for Halloween horror revelers.
We also know the operating dates. As of now, it’s set to run September 10-November 1.
Another exciting thing is that Halloween Horror Nights is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Will it contribute to extra special festivities?
We’ll see. They should start announcing a lot of more info soon.
COVID-19 Precautions
“What about coronavirus? Florida is a hot spot right now, after all.”
Great question. As we all know only one thing’s been consistent with this coronavirus pandemic: it’s always changing.
Amusement parks draw crowds and being around other people is a good way to catch COVID-19. Universal can’t guarantee you won’t become infected, but they are putting safety guidelines in place, including:
- Requiring face masks
- Temperature checks
- Encouraging hand washing
- Encouraging social distancing and having markers to inform people were to stand when waiting in lines
- Enhanced cleaning
- Limiting capacity
It’s always possible Florida parks may have to close back down. None of us know what’s coming next, but as of now they’re trying to make it possible for Halloween Horror Nights 2020 to happen while taking guest and team member safety into consideration.
