Third Time’s A Charm: 2018 World’s Largest Ghost Hunt Biggest, Most Spirited Yet

It seems like good ideas are like fine wine: they take time to age. In this case, I’m talking about the World’s Largest Ghost Hunt, which happens on National Ghost Hunting Day. (Both of which are listed on the Paracons & Horror Fests and Weird Holidays & Observances pages, respectively.)

I’ve followed this event the past two years.

The first World’s Largest Ghost Hunt seemed to only have a handful of teams and haunted locations signed up. Or, if there were more, it wasn’t well publicized or organized.

But by the second World’s Largest Ghost Hunting Day, the kinks were worked out and the enthusiasm had spread. There were a lot more teams and haunted locations signed up –92!– and they were all more active with their promotional efforts too.

Which brings us to 2018’s World’s Largest Ghost Hunting Day. Seems like the third time around is going to be the charm. The event is living up to its name big time this year.

Bigger Than Ever

There are 146 locations in 12 countries participating in the World’s Largest Ghost Hunt on September 29, 2018. (They’ve capped it at 150 locations, so it could grow even more. There are room for 4 more haunted places. Unless they’ve been taken and just haven’t been added to the database yet.)

However, unless I missed a haunted location represented by a South American country, I only count five continents, not six:  North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South Africa. (Hey, it’s the Virgo in me. Stickler for details.)

But the point is, 2018’s World’s Largest Ghost Hunt has more haunted locations and teams investigating them than ever before.

Where are the Locations?

The haunted places that will be investigated are called “Satellites.”

To find a Satellite:

  1. Go to the National Ghost Hunting Day’s site.
  2. Click on the Ghost Hunting Satellites drop down from “The Hunt” tab in the top menu.

You’ll see a table listing the location’s Photo, Country, State, Website, Team, and links to the Team’s Website (if applicable) and Ticket Info (if applicable).

How to Participate

First you have to decide whether you want to go investigate in person or watch via a live stream.

To Investigate in Person:

  1. Follow Steps 1 and 2 above to find the locations and see if there’s one near you. Or, if you’re up for a jaunt, see if there’s one in a haunted place you’ve always been curious about investigating.
  2. Purchase a ticket or contact the team (whichever is applicable) to sign up.

  2.  Join their Mailing List to get announcements about which social media outlets they’ll be streaming on. The sign up form can be found on the National Ghost Hunting Day’s Home page.

Raising Awareness For #ParaPreservation

The main goals both the National Ghost Hunting Day and the World’s Largest Ghost Hunt are trying to accomplish are: (a) to foster para-unity and (b) raise money and awareness for paranormal preservation.

Or, to sum it up in modern day terms: #SaveHauntedPlaces.

Money raised by teams and haunted locations that are charging admission or attendance fees are slotted to go straight to the haunted places.

All in all that’s pretty cool, right?
