In early March, news broke about the fate of Portals to Hell: canceled after three seasons. At the end of the same month, on March 31, Katrina Weidman released her debut solo single, “Suffer Me.” She’s following that up with the release of “I Do,” her newest dark pop single, which drops on May 26.

But what does this mean? Is she trading in investigating the paranormal for singing and songwriting?

It doesn’t look that way. From all appearances, she’s making room for both. I’m not 100% sure about that, though. If I get a chance to ask her about it, I will.

However, it stands to reason. Because even though Portals is done, she still has her YouTube show, Travel the Dead, which she launched last year.

For now, let’s take a look at what her new song is about.

Katrina Weidman’s “I Do”

“I Do” has been described as “a deliciously moody dark pop track sprinkled with tasteful influences such as Goldfrapp, Portishead, Massive Attack, and ‘Ray of Light’-era Madonna.” Multi-platinum-selling producer Barb Morrison, who produced critically acclaimed projects with Blondie, Debbie Harry, LP, Rufus Wainwright, and Franz Ferdinand, produced it.

As for the song itself, here’s what Weidman said about it:

“I Do” stems from my own experience as a woman. The song delves into how we position ourselves with other people, how others want us to be positioned, and the roles we’re sometimes forced to play. For me, writing this song reflected on how others choose to view me and my response to that.

  1. They really are determined to get rid of massive amounts of viewers, aren’t they?

What all is left to watch?

  2. I didn’t know Weidman was musical. I wonder if she feels channeled into a certain genre, or if she enjoys singing jazz or country or whatever.

Great question! I’ve been wondering where the programming highlights I used to get from them are. Maybe this is why I haven’t gotten any…the programming has been decimated. BUT it usually picks back up in summer, and definitely by August/September. Curious to see which shows they’ll have next.

Great question! (Well, it’s not exactly a question…but I’m at a loss for what to call your wondering. lol) I think she gravitates towards alt rock from what little I’ve heard. BUT…does she dabble in more genres? And which ones is she influenced by? These are all great question sparkers so thank you once again for that! lol

  5. Yesterday I updated my HBOMax to the new Max app which supposedly just combined Discovery+ and HBOMax apps into one.

After checking out the Paranormal offerings many of my favorites from the Discovery+ app were not included in this merging of both apps. They have definitely eliminated programs in all categories in their cost cutting spree. So they are not only cancelling ongoing shows but removing paranormal shows from their back catalog as well.

Very disappointing! I’m rethinking my streaming service choices and considering canceling Max and subscribing to the lesser known all horror & paranormal streaming apps.

Hey Misty! You reminded me about something I wanted to check because I thought I’d heard something prior to the HBO Max shift to just Max that discovery+ would be merged with it all too. I didn’t notice much different when I updated to the new Max platform, BUT I wasn’t specifically looking for paranormal shows or anything Discovery.

But your comment prompted me go check to see if they’d kept just discovery+. Yes. Then I wanted to know what Discovery stuff would be on Max and found this article: https://www.thewrap.com/max-streaming-service-price-content-hbo-max-discovery-plus/.

Basically, “Max will have all of HBO Max’s library plus what it calls ‘Discovery favorites,” or the top shows from HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, Magnolia and Discovery.”

Discovery+ will still remain as the lower cost option for those who don’t want Max shows and movies (and to pay that higher monthly fee).

I sure can appreciate your frustration. It’s not fun when they make changes and then when it’s a little confusing with what might be on there or not…gah! Just quit changing things and let us stream in peace, right?! lol
