Is there an Atlas Obscura app? Yes! (Finally!)

I always wished there was an Atlas Obscura app —and was a little surprised there wasn’t. Well, now there is!

Atlas Obscura recently announced the launch of its new iOS app. It helps travelers “discover the world’s hidden wonders on the go.” Fantastic! This will make trip planning a whole lot easier.

Before almost every trip, and definitely before ones to places that I’ve never been before, I consult Atlas Obscura to find unusual things to do and see. I could always pull up their site on my phone, of course, but it was easier to take notes and make lists while on my laptop. I’d plug my findings in an Evernote “Things to See in X City” list and away I’d go.

However, those days are behind me. Let’s explore everything the new app has to offer.

Maps

Just like its site, the Atlas Obscura app allows you to find unique places nearby or plan ones to see on your next trip.

Backstories

Also just like you can on the site, you’ll find detailed information, photos, and community tips about places on the app too.

Tracking

Move over Evernote, I can now use the Atlas Obscura app to create custom lists for bucket destination organization!

But what about the “Been There” feature? Does the app have that too? Yep!

Contributions

If you know of someplace Atlas Obscura doesn’t have yet, you can contribute it, as well as share travel photos and tips.

Browsing

We all have different interests and things we like to see and do. Whether it’s history, architecture, art, or natural wonders, you can use the app to browse their “never-ending collection of off-the-beaten-path places” to go out and discover IRL.

  1. I’m not a big travelor, but when I do, I like to see or do something cool, then plan downtime after it. Like maybe see a musical on stage then go back to the hotel room and order pizza for a quiet dinner. I think the needing downtime part is because of my introvert tendancies.:-)

THIS I can TOTALLY relate to! I will run around with Wayne…and even on my own if I’m traveling with him but he has to work. But there comes a point I just need to chill out, be alone, have some quiet time…Which is why I’m usually ready for a vacation after a vacation. lol But my dream scenario? What you laid out. Do something, then do something quiet back at the room.
