Insidious 5: The Red Door – The Spooky Post on Nextdoor

Insidious 5: The Red Door poster with claw marks and body

Why was I at first fooled by the ad for Insidious 5: The Red Door on Nextdoor? Because it fit right in with all the other scary posts I often see on the platform.

Kidding. Well, sort of.

I don’t know what Nextdoor posts in your area are like, but where I live, it’s all about neighbors reporting gunshots and car break-ins, and sharing Ring cam footage of questionable people acting in semi-shady ways. (Or sometimes full-on shady ways.)

And thanks to that description, I wouldn’t blame you if you thought I lived in a rough part of Nashville. I don’t. (Just near one. LOL Again, kidding. Or maybe I’m just fooling myself…)

Anyway, it was a combination of factors that confused my brain at first. On some level, I registered that it indicated “sponsored” under the name. But I was so focused on certain keywords in the description, particularly “claw marks” and “creepy,” that it didn’t click right away. Not to mention I was distracted by the video slowly creeping ever closer to the red door.

I must’ve rewatched it three or four times back-to-back before I finally realized it was just a very clever ad. One unlike I’d ever seen before on Nextdoor. They’re usually for some kind of home service.

But I thought it was super clever, so I took a snapshot and here I am writing about it.

I wasn’t able to see the claw marks on the door very well in the ad on Nextdoor. I just sort of took their word for it. But they’re very recognizable on the trailer, which contains a variation of the red door scene that was in the Nextdoor ad. Except, it didn’t include the words “10 years ago unimaginable horrors haunted a family” popping up on the screen. (That would’ve definitely clued me in that it was an ad.)

Nor did it contain the exploding lightbulb like in the trailer. Instead, the door slowly swung open to reveal…darkness beyond. (And I may or may not have leaned in as it was happening trying to get a better look at whatever was coming. Which thankfully was not anything jumping out. But that’s engrossed I was.)

The Insidious 5 Nextdoor Post

The Insidious 5: The Red Door post on Nextdoor
There are a lot of scary posts on Nextdoor but this was one of the scariest yet!

I have to admit, I was hoping maybe it was advertising some kind of promo event similar to the IT Experience a few years back. It let fans explore the Neibolt House (a.k.a. Pennywise’s house).

Neighbors can’t stop posting about this Red Door in Nashville. It’s covered in claw marks. There have also been several reports of “tiptoe through the tulips” playing and loud noises. Is this just normal creepy or is it something further?

Sadly it wasn’t for something interesting like that. Bummer.
