Okay, we have some interesting news to decipher from discovery+: the streamer has given a greenlight for a Ghost Hunters comeback.

Huh? Wasn’t Ghost Hunters already resurrected?

If you’re wondering the same thing, you’re not alone. And the answer is, “Yes.”

Two seasons of Ghost Hunters aired on A&E with Grant at the helm of the team. Jason, Steve and Tango branched off to form a new series, Ghost Nation. The newest episodes of that series aired on discovery+ earlier this year. In fact, they started live Tweeting again once the episodes started premiering on Travel Channel.

But now it appears changes are in the works. We don’t have a lot of details, but let’s take a look at what we do know so far.

The Ghost Hunters Comeback Press Release

This is the revival of the series that started it all. discovery+ has given the greenlight to the iconic series, Ghost Hunters.

Original team leader Jason Hawes and Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango and Shari DeBenedetti are taking back the paranormal reins in epic haunted locations. And don’t be surprised to see some familiar faces and special guests join the team on the hunt in this all-new version of the hit series. The 13 one-hour episodes will begin streaming later this year on discovery+.

“Fans are obsessed with the Paranormal & Unexplained hub on the new streaming platform,” said Matthew Butler, general manager, Travel Channel. “Bringing back ‘Ghost Hunters’ with their favorite cast members is a thrill. And fans who want to remember why this show is a classic can watch seasons from the original series – they are available now on discovery+.”

Ghost Hunters Release Date

All the press release revealed was later this year.

However, since the team will head out in the field next month, I’m thinking they might be gearing up to be part of discovery+’s first annual Ghostober celebration. (It will really be the fourth Ghostober, but since it’ll be the streamer’s first Halloween, it will also be its first Ghostober.)

Where’s Grant?

In October 2020, Ghost Hunters executive producer Grant Wilson posted a video on Twitter to answer the questions: “Is Ghost Hunters canceled?” and “Will Ghost Hunters be making a comeback?”

Basically, he didn’t know. He was waiting to hear back from the network. (A&E) But the pandemic turned everything upside down and then discovery+ happened so…he was in a holding pattern.

Looks like not only did he get his answer, but now we all know too.

Will he be one of the “familiar faces” we see on the comeback series? And what about Ghost Nation? Will the Ghost Hunters comeback replace it or supplement it?

Time will tell, and as soon as I learn any more details, I’ll be sure to share them!

  1. I would love a Ghost Hunters comeback. Technology has improved, and the show was always debunk-first, so I think anything they capture is believable.

You bring up an excellent observation. Maybe that’s why they’ve always seemed more believable. I didn’t understand that until your comment.

  3. I sure hope Grant is involved. Even if it isn’t in every episode in person, his potential guest appearances would be be fabulous. Ghost Hunters are tremendous in that they do try to get authentic proof and don’t overreact when things happen (not counting when Steve reacts to a creepy crawly though). They approach it almost scientifically in that they want evidence and answers.

ROFL about the Steve and the creepy crsawlies. NAILED IT! I like that after all these years they haven’t gone totally dark and demon-y. Also, I think you bring up a great point that people are gonna want to see Grant. It’ll be interesting to see how many episodes he’s on… THANKS for your thoughtful comments!
