Even Scarier than the Unrested Souls of Kells Irish Pub: What the Ghost Adventures Crew Saw

Seattle’s Kells Irish Pub resides in a building that was once used as the Butterworth morgue. The Ghost Adventures investigation of it will be the last Ghost Adventures episode for this year. (New epis return January 7, 2011, though.)

ABOUT THE EPISODE

Rather than trying to recreate the wheel, here’s the Ghost Adventures episode description for Kells Irish Pub:

In Seattle in the early 1900s death was a good business. Mining accidents, disease, and murder made it very profitable to run a morgue. E.R. Butterworth opened Seattle’s first morgue in the midst of an outbreak of a deadly disease. At the time, there were so many deaths the City of Seattle payed citizens for each body that was brought to the morgue. Since the payment was about half a year’s salary for many, it became an incentive for murder.

Today, Kell’s Irish Pub occupies what used to be the morgue. The unrested souls that passed through the walls continue to have an effect on the building today. Figures walk the halls, glasses move on their own, and voices echo throughout the building.

Every year there seems to be a build-up of paranormal activity as we move closer to the anniversary of Seattle’s spanish influenza outbreak in 1918. Due to the number of deaths it was mandatory for everyone to wear surgical masks in public. Thousands of bodies passed through the mortuary as a result of disease, accidents, and foul play, but E.R. Butterworth didn’t care if the bodies were there as a result of murder. Zak, Nick, and Aaron believe the souls of those who died for unjust reasons remain trapped in Kell’s Irish Pub.

THE SCARY DOCTOR

I thought one of the scariest stories from the episode was of Dr. Linda Hazzard. (And I just have to say, what a name! Especially for a doctor. And then she turned out to be not a very good one!) Her questionable treatment practices included starving patients. Many died under her care.

Claire and Dorothea Williamson were sisters Dr. Hazzard treated. Claire died under her care and Dr. Hazzard was charged with murder. Claire was cremated in the Butterworth morgue. They showed pictures of the sister who lived…she looked like a zombie in turn of the 20th century clothes. Just a haunting, freaky image.

THE WALL IN THE ALLEY

But for Zak, Nick and Aaron, the scariest part of their investigation in Seattle was not any of the activity they experienced in Kells. It was something they checked out in an alley in broad daylight. A wall littered with the remnants of other people’s gum!

And what Zak does at the bubble gum wall…gross!

SHOW CLIP

Here’s a clip from the show. To me it looks like a little monkey or something sitting on the stairs, but I guess it could be the spirit of a chlid too. All I know is I want an infrared still camera! (Santa, do you still have time to add it to your sack and get it to me for Christmas?)

Huh. That was pretty smart. I didn’t think of looking at it that way. It still looks like a monkey to me. Not sure why. That’s just how my mind’s interpreting it. LOL Thanks again for the great comment.
