Chatting Horoscopes with Willow Croft

Willow Croft interview cover

Willow Croft, “bringer of nightmares and storms,” has crafted some really fun horoscopes, not only for Haunt Jaunts (which you can find on the Fun & Games page), but other sites as well, including Horror Tree (her most recent is, “May 2022 Horoscopes: [Undead] Party Like It’s…”) and Katzenworld (“2022 Astrological Guide to Shelter Cats”).

I thought it’d be fun to talk to her about her horoscopes, which just entertain me to no end. Which is important to note. No matter where she publishes them, Willow Croft always includes disclaimers that what she crafts are mock horoscopes. They’re meant for entertainment purposes only and are not to be taken seriously.

And yet…she writes such compelling ones that people often comment, “Whoa! That describes me to a T!” or “I can relate to that.” or “That sounds about right.”

Anyway, we had a great chat, the entirety of which I’ve posted on YouTube and embedded below. But here’s a quick summary of a few of the things we talked about.

How do you come up with your clever horoscopes? What’s your process?

Willow explained that “it does take some work.” She researches the different signs, which I think would be hard, but she has fun with it and focuses more on the creative side.

Ah ha! That might be her secret ingredient. I think it shines through in her final product.

Do you have a favorite sign (other than your own)?

As a general rule she finds Geminis fun because they’re mutable. She also enjoys writing horoscopes for Leos because as she put it, “they’re sort of the showstoppers of the zodiac.”

Does your creativity demand to come out? And if it’s not through writing, is it through other means?

Yes. Writing is part of her fabric, but when things are chaotic or she’s in transition, writing doesn’t come as easy. Environment matters!

The Full Willow Croft Interview

In addition to me raving about her “crazy creative” horoscope-crafting talent (my words, not hers; she’s far too modest to describe herself that way), she also shared a story about a relative in Virginia who was kidnapped and lived in a cave!

As I mentioned before, the audio of our chat, with some screen shares woven in, is on YouTube, and embedded here for your convenience and listening pleasure.
