Are you a fan of Blumhouse horror movies? Did you attend the first BlumFest virtual event around Halloween last year? If you missed it, /Film recently reported that Jason Blum announced BlumFest 2021 is coming in time for Halloween again this year too.
What will be the same and what will be different between last year’s event and this one? When will it take place? Who can we expect to see and which movies will we learn more about?
Let’s take a look at what we know about BlumFest 2021 so far. But first, let’s check out what BlumFest is.
About BlumFest
The first BlumFest was a virtual affair that took place online via YouTube and Facebook in 2020. It happened just in time for Halloween on October 29.
It consisted of celeb panels with stars from movies like Freaky, The Craft: Legacy, and Halloween. There were also updates and news about forthcoming projects as well as sneak peeks of upcoming movies. (At the time, The Craft: Legacy had recently released and Freaky was due out on Friday, November 13.)
But Jason Blum summed it up best when he explained, “This year has sidelined a lot for all of us, but Halloween is a treasured season at Blumhouse, so we conceived BlumFest to celebrate with our fans via a virtual event that will feature exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage on an upcoming release or two.”
1. The Date of BlumFest 2021
The video announcement said October 1, but does that mean it’ll only happen on that day or all month long?
The first one was only one day so maybe this will follow suit. But instead of ending the spookiest month of the year with a BlumFest like it did the first time, this year it will kick it off with one.
2. The BlumFest 2021 Lineup
In his announcement, Jason Blum said it will be the directors and actors from Blumhouse movies and TV shows. As you would expect, but which ones?
There’s no shortage of titles to choose from.
Upcoming Blumhouse Releases
The Forever Purge is set to release on July 9, 2021. It’s allegedly the fifth and final installment in the series. Den of Geek reported the franchise’s writer and creator, James DeMonaco, promised “a ‘really cool’ end to the series.” Likely fans of that franchise will want to talk about that. So maybe we’ll see DeMonaco.
The second batch of Welcome to the Blumhouse movies are also due out on Amazon at some point in 2021. If they haven’t started by then maybe we’ll see a trailer for that?
Halloween Kills was originally slated for an October 2020 release date, but now it’s set for October 15, 2021. It’s the second in the trilogy of Blumhouse’s reboot of the classic original that spawned so many sequels. And even another reboot, which came from Rob Zombie.
I’m 99.9% sure we can expect this to be a part of BlumFest 2021. Maybe they’ll show a clip from the movie or there’ll be an appearance from Jamie Lee Curtis?
The third film in Blum’s Halloween reboot series, Halloween Ends, is set to release a year later, on October 14, 2022. Maybe there will be a sneak peek of that too?
In-Production Blumhouse Projects
Paranormal Activity 7 also presents a possibility for being part of Blumfest 2021. It’s already drummed up a lot of buzz about heading to Paramount+ at some point in the future. We don’t know when though.
All we do know about it so far is that Christopher Landon is back on board as the writer. Maybe he’ll show up to BlumFest? Maybe there’ll be a cast announcement? Or a teaser trailer?
Vengeance, a mystery horror thriller, is another one we may learn more about too. It’s written by BJ Novak (yes, as in “Ryan” from The Office) who also stars in it along with Issa Rae and Ashton Kutcher.
Pre-Production Blumhouse Projects
There are also a ton of other projects in the works, including several movies in pre-production, such as:
- Five Nights at Freddy’s, which is based on the horror game of the same name
- Wolfman, which seems like a logical one to resurrect after they tackled The Invisible Man,
- Mother Nature, which would mark Jamie Lee Curtis’s directorial debut. (What? She’s never done that yet?)
“Project Poltergeist” is as yet untitled, but it’s also in the works from novelist, screenwriter and director John Ridley. Den of Geek reported that it “tells the true story of a young boy who is purported terrified by supernatural occurrences in a public housing project in the 1960s.”
I’m sure if we don’t hear more about this one this year, we will. I don’t know what true story it’s based on, but it reminded me of the “Phantom Hand” episode from The Holzer Files for some reason. (In 1963 a family in Cleveland, Ohio, witnessed a phantom hand coming up through a trap door in their floor. I don’t know if they lived in a public housing development or not though.)
As you can see, things are hopping at Blumhouse and there’s no shortage of projects they could promote for BlumFest 2021. But the one I’m willing to bet we’ll for sure hear about is Halloween Kills.

Vengeance sounds freakishly fun. I can’t believe there have been 6 Paranormal Activity movies already. It’s a great franchise.
