A Lifestyle Site for Restless Spirits Who Enjoy Exploring the Dark Side
True Crime | Horror | The Paranormal

Courtney Mroch (Page 9)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.

Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.

Bodkin based on a true story graphic

Did a real Samhain true crime or podcast inspire Netflix’s Bodkin?

When I started watching Bodkin, two questions nagged me. The first was, “Is Bodkin a real place?” The second was, “Is it really based on a true story involving a mysterious disappearance during Samhain?” Well, that’s not entirely accurate. The second question technically came first, but I was reminded ofContinue Reading

Have you seen the “Scarebnb Prank” that Madelaine Petsch, the star and executive producer of The Strangers: Chapter 1, pulled off? It made me understand why people strive to become influencers. A group of lucky ones experienced the perk of a lifetime. Well, if you consider it both “lucky” andContinue Reading

Did the Mohonk Mountain House actually inspire The Shining?

Which hotel would you envision if you read this statement: “This location supposedly was the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s thriller The Shining.” If, like me, the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, popped first to mind, I would understand that. If, however, you said the MohonkContinue Reading

Are you ready to return to Oz in one of this year’s most anticipated prequel events? Even before the Wicked trailer dropped today, people were giddy with excitement about the hit musical coming to the silver screen. However, judging by the YouTube comments, now that they’ve seen snippets, they’re absolutelyContinue Reading

“We’re already getting inundated with viewer photos of the Northern Lights,” one of the local meteorologists said during the 10 p.m. Friday news. “Look at all these sightings. Keep those pics coming.” Wait. What? We were really getting a chance to see the aurora borealis in Middle Tennessee? Clearly, fromContinue Reading

“You might think Berenstain is misspelled,” John Oliver said at the beginning of the “Libraries” episode of Last Week Tonight. “You might remember it as S-T-E-I-N, but that’s wrong. It’s a weird Mandela effect thing that a lot of people misremember.” The Berenstain Bears Mandela effect was the last thingContinue Reading

With the new hiccup, will the Friday the 13th series ever happen?

When Peacock released artwork for Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th series, at the start of 2023, I was so excited. Especially after I verified that the Instagram post someone had shared with me about it was legit. In fact, I was actually late hearing about it. The news hadContinue Reading

Who are the Three Ice Men and why do we wait for them to pass?

“Perhaps you’ve heard the old proverb that warns not to plant until after the ‘Three Ice Men’ have passed,” the Farmers’ Almanac article began. Um, no. That’s new to me. However, I’m also not much of a gardener. I may plant a few flowers or herbs in containers every year,Continue Reading

Making a good horror anthology series like American Horror Stories is hard. Even AHS hasn’t gotten it right with all of its seasons. But the first season of the Amazon Original THEM (a.k.a. THEM: Covenant) hit the mark with high ratings. Would its sophomore season, THEM: The Scare, repeat thatContinue Reading

In the trailer for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, the Liars get bad news. “Is Discovery Channel venturing into the found footage genre?” I wondered when I first heard about Expedition from Hell: The Lost Tapes. “How’s that going to work?” It was the “lost tapes” part that tripped me up. Were there really some lost tapes that someone found that would tell theContinue Reading
