Exploring the Sensational and Scary in Our Spooky Universe

Courtney Mroch (Page 201)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.

Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.

On: November 9, 2010
In: Haunted Places

As I wrote about in “Haunt Jaunts Was Here: Rhode Island,” the trolley we were desperate to catch so we could make it back to the dock in time to get a tender back to the ship came just as I spotted the sign for Belcourt Castle. It was justContinue Reading

Last night I was mesmerized as I watched an episode of Globe Trekker about Syria. It’s not someplace I knew anything about apart from the fact it’s someplace in the Middle East. (I’d have been hard-pressed to even show you where it was on a map.) I still don’t knowContinue Reading

I was going through some old posts when I came across this one: Seven Tips to Keep Your Fall Haunt Jaunts Safe. It sort of cracked me up. (Interesting to see what was on my mind last year around this time.) But there was also some good advice too. SoContinue Reading

30 of the Best Frighteningly Fun Halloween Props and Decorations

While I was out and about this Halloween season, I saw a bunch of frighteningly fun Halloween props and decorations I’d like to buy.  (Because unlike the Frog Queen or ShellHawk I’m not crafty and need pre-made Halloween decorations to haunt my home with.) Not surprisingly, a lot of what I likedContinue Reading

Back in September when we took our 10 day Canada/New England cruise, Newport, Rhode Island was the first port on our itinerary. The morning of September 7 dawned bright, affording us a picture perfect first glimpse of the harbor. (Neither my husband nor I had been to Newport before.) Here’s theContinue Reading

One thing I said I would do as part of the HJ Spooktacular Halloween Blog Party was a costume contest. One of my blogging pals and a V.I.P. Guest, Chris the Frog Queen from Frog on the Pumpkin, wrote how she was curious to see how I was going toContinue Reading

Well, this was it. The final giveaway, which makes me one very sad witch. It means it’s the end of Halloween. Rats! Just when we were starting to have so much fun. Ah well, with any luck we’ll be Halloween partying together again next year. For now, enjoy the lastContinue Reading

Mr. Skull didn’t stand a chance. Everyone who entered pointed the finger at him being the culprit of the crash. And everyone gave very convincing arguments for why they felt it was him too. Only one person thought he had an accomplice. (Mommy D, I loved how you found a wayContinue Reading

Yesterday when we ate lunch at Cheddar’s I wasn’t expecting to find so much All Hallow’s Eve fun. Not only was the staff all dressed up for Halloween, there were pumpkins on parade! (Okay, so they weren’t really in a parade. They were just on display.) But they were soContinue Reading
