Exploring the Sensational and Scary in Our Spooky Universe

Courtney Mroch (Page 180)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.

Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.

Like most everything else in my life, I’m dreadfully behind on my reading. Hey, what can I say? I was expecting a long, cold winter. One where I could hunker down and read to my heart’s content. Instead, it’s been a mild winter. Not to mention a crazy one. Oh,Continue Reading

Movie Monday: ‘The Woman in Black’ Provides Spooky Fun On and Off Screen

Thanks to social media, this weekend I noticed many of my friends saying they’d either been to, or were preparing to go see, The Woman in Black. I had it in my mind that it didn’t come out until March 7. I didn’t know if people were seeing sneak peek’sContinue Reading

Travel Tech Thursday: A Reader Seeks Voice Recorder Suggestions

I’m sort of borrowing from something I’ve seen on the New York Shadow Chasers Facebook page. They do tech reviews each week. (Mostly on Wednesdays, though.) This isn’t a review, but perhaps they’ll swing by and help me out with a reader’s question. Don asked the following: I’m looking forContinue Reading

Results of Madame Mroch’s Groundhog Day 2012 Prediction

So how’d I fare predicting Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction? I’m wrong for the second year in a row. (Or maybe he is. Last year spring did not come early. This year it’s already here. I see the daffodils to prove it!) Oh well. Gave me an excuse to poke a littleContinue Reading

Madame Mroch’s Prognostications: Early Spring Ahead

I thought I’d do something a bit different this year. I thought I’d put my powers of prognostication to the test and predict Punxsutawney Phil’s Groundhog Day declaration. I’ve gazed into my crystal ball (actually, I’ve just been watching the daffies sprout about a month earlier than normal) and I’veContinue Reading

Movie Monday: Finnair Flight Crew Caught Doing Some Very Happy Dancing

I love, Love, LOVE when I fly and have a fun flight crew. It’s why I used to love Southwest. (Still do.) They always did (still do) something funny to lighten up the trip. But in the past few years, I’ve noticed other airlines copying the model. Some flight attendantsContinue Reading

When you love the paranormal and travel in search of it, or Haunt Jaunt as I like to call it, you don’t necessarily learn where the best ghosts roam. You’re lucky to experience any paranormal activity. However, you still learn things. (That’s pretty much true for any travel really.) IContinue Reading

One of my sister’s shared a post on Facebook with me the other day. It was from a post Toni Morris of The Cattaraugus County Ghost Hunters made on her Facebook page. Toni and her team are doing a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Well, that’s one of theContinue Reading

Movie Monday: The Whale Man of Ensenada (a.k.a. NOT a Chupacabra Skeleton)

After exploring Ensenada’s tourist section, we decided to take a little waterfront path back to our boat. Almost immediately I spied something intriguing. It was a towering thing that most definitely appeared to be made up at least partially of bones. As we approached, I fired up my camera andContinue Reading

I suppose I have to make this disclaimer ahead of time: the Etsy store and the products I’m featuring this Friday belong to my sister Dinell Holmes. She did not ask me to do this, nor is she compensating me in any way. I decided to feature some of theContinue Reading

To Question is To Jaunt: What Draws Me to the Paranormal

This often shocks a lot of people, but even though I’ve had some personal paranormal experiences, I’m still probably more of a skeptic than a believer. Sure, I often have prophetic dreams. For instance, I dreamt of such biggies before they happened like 9/11, the Virginia Tech shooting, and theContinue Reading
