A Lifestyle Site for Restless Spirits Who Enjoy Exploring the Dark Side
True Crime | Horror | The Paranormal

Courtney Mroch (Page 10)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.

Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.

The Traitors cover with cast and castle

Is the castle in “The Traitors” haunted and can you stay in it?

2024-04-22
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 22, 2024
In: Entertainment, Featured

The castle in The Traitors has seen dozens of murders during the two seasons of both the U.K. and U.S. versions of the show. (Australia, Canada, and New Zealand also have versions, but in different settings, which we’ll briefly explore in a bit.) Luckily none have been real murders, butContinue Reading

Abigail Review: Dracula’s Daughter Has Daddy Issues

“That’s a movie I’d see in theaters,” I thought when the trailer for Abigail dropped at the beginning of this year. It looked fun and maybe like the ballet/vampire horror movie mashup we didn’t know we needed. I made a mental note to try to snag free passes if thereContinue Reading

Skinwalker Invasion: Ghost Adventures meets Skinwalker Ranch?

2024-04-17
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 17, 2024
In: Entertainment, TV Series

“Is the Ghost Adventures team going to investigate with the Skinwalker Ranch guys?” I wondered when I saw the announcement about the new season of Ghost Adventures. As they did with the “Lake of Death” and “Devil’s Island” episodes ahead of past seasons, they’ll also kick off this all-new seasonContinue Reading

Will the Monster Inside doc end up costing Hulu $8.4M?

2024-04-15
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 15, 2024
In: Halloween, Horror, News

Was Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House meant to serve as a warning or a cleverly disguised promo? That’s among the things I wondered after watching the Hulu documentary about the notorious McKamey Manor last year. A lot of accusations were made against owner Russ McKamey about just howContinue Reading

Eclipse Crossroads 2017 and 2024 total solar eclipses

The Eclipse Crossroads: Where does “X” mark the spot?

2024-04-08
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 8, 2024
In: Astrology

The 2024 total solar eclipse has me thinking a lot about the 2017 eclipse. That’s probably why Space.com‘s article about the ways the 2024 total solar eclipse will vary from 2017’s caught my eye. For one, the width of their paths of totality differ. 2017’s was narrower (70 miles wide)Continue Reading

Night of the Hunter: Serial Killer-Inspired Classic Getting a Remake

2024-04-04
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 4, 2024
In: Entertainment, Horror, Movies

It’s been almost 70 years since Night of the Hunter premiered in 1955. By the time the remade version is released, it will have hit its platinum anniversary. That’s right. They’re redoing the classic (and terrifying!) thriller starring Robert Mitchum. (“They” being Scott Derrickson, who’s working on a script withContinue Reading

cruise passengers stranded consequences

Calling Foul on the Cruise Passengers “Stranded” in Africa

2024-04-02
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 2, 2024
In: News, Travel

Recently, news agencies around the world reported about the cruise passengers “stranded” by their cruise ship during a tour. I put stranded in quotation marks for a couple of reasons. One, from Business Insider to Today.com and ABCNews.com, and even 9News in Australia, every headline contained the three same words:Continue Reading

THEM season 2 is happening? Yes! Prepare for “The Scare”

2024-04-01
By: Courtney Mroch
On: April 1, 2024
In: Entertainment, Horror, Movies

You could easily be forgiven if you didn’t think a THEM season 2 was happening either. I know I didn’t, and I was pretty bummed about it. Not that season 1 left off on a major cliffhanger or anything. Or, at least, not from what I remember. (That was threeContinue Reading

Sci-Fi World Coming Soon

Sci-Fi World FINALLY a Done Deal: Opens May 27, 2024

2024-03-22
By: Courtney Mroch
On: March 22, 2024
In: Mysterious

Will Sci-Fi World really open this time? It’s a valid question since this wouldn’t be the first time they announced an opening date. Back in 2021, they announced the museum was coming in Summer 2022. They even launched a Kickstarter campaign to help meet that deadline. Sadly, the campaign failedContinue Reading

The Devil Comet Cometh: What does it mean for Earth?

2024-03-16
By: Courtney Mroch
On: March 16, 2024
In: Astrology, Astronomy, News

With a name like the “Devil Comet,” it’s easy to understand why its rare, “once-in-a-lifetime” appearance might cause alarm. Although, “once-in-a-lifetime” is a little misleading. It depends on when you’re born. There are those who were alive the last time it made an appearance in 1954. Just like today’s youthContinue Reading

Ghost Adventures: House Calls New Locations But No On-Site Zak

2024-03-14
By: Courtney Mroch
On: March 14, 2024
In: Entertainment, TV Series

When Ghost Adventures: House Calls premiered in 2022, many people wondered why Zak Bagans wasn’t on-site for the investigations. It seemed to be a combination of reasons, including experimenting with a different form of investigating, perhaps to try and assuage his fear of flying. But with the new season ofContinue Reading
