9 Countries You Should Visit Despite the Stereotypes

This is a guest contribution from Adelina Benson.

Are stereotypes stopping you from seeing the world? You are not alone. However, there are some stereotypes you have to abandon quickly and visit these amazing countries:

Germany

Most people see Germany as a country of workaholics who don’t know how to have fun. This is why a lot of tourists avoid it, unless it’s for business trips. However, Germany is much more than that. Sure, they work hard – but most countries do.

They have developed a unique taste for entertainment and fun because of this. Just visit some famous events like the Octoberfest. Also, a lot of people enjoy the weekend more because of all the hard work they do.

German nature and culture will be a unique experience for you.

Philippines

People are used to stereotyping East Asian countries as poor and underdeveloped because that’s what we are used to seeing in movies. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Philippines, for instance, have many islands, cultures and different things to offer to tourists.

Once you immerse yourself in the experience, you’ll forget all about your stereotypes.

UK

The UK has some bad rep because of the weather. Again, the movies are to blame – they often aint the picture of this perpetually rainy, foggy and cold country. And while it’s true that due to its location and climate changes, this area is prone to rain and cold, it’s not all there is to it.

For one, there are some amazing sights to be seen in England. The culture and people are also amazing. And there are certain seasons which allow for plenty of sunshine. However, not every country needs to have palm trees for you to enjoy it – embrace the UK as it is.

Russia

“Russia is one of the most commonly stereotyped countries. It’s seen as cold and made out of these gloomy communist buildings that seem like they came straight out of a horror movie. However, one glance at the beautiful regions and wonderful cities of Russia will instantly change your mind,” says Lydia Hastings, a Senior Marketing Officer at 1day2write and Australia2write.

Go to Moscow or St. Petersburg to experience amazing architecture and urban culture mixed in with royal history. Russia is the world’s biggest country, so there is a lot of great things to see and many different natural wonders.

France

“French people are commonly seen as rude. However, their opinion is that talking too much means bothering someone. They are not rude, they are just different,” says Dan Wilson, a Social marketer at Writemyx and Britstudent.

Embrace their rich culture as it is and experience amazing cities with great history or head out into the country or seaside for some French rural charm.

Australia

Australians are often perceived as these alcoholics that never stop drinking. However, this stereotype is just based on Australian tourists that like to unwind when on vacation.

Visit Australia to see amazing, welcoming people, magnificent cities and beautiful natural wonders.

Italy

Italian people are also seen as rude, mean and loud. People think that they will get yelled at on the street. But Italy is an amazing country full of welcoming people – and no one will yell at you on the street unless you punch them.

There are so many regions to see and culture to experience that it would be a shame if you missed it because of this stereotype.

Greece

Again, the world always perceives Mediterranean people as loud and rude. But they are really not – in fact, people from Mediterranean countries are very hospitable and kind, especially to tourists.

Travel to Greece to get a taste of the ancient history and experience this amazing culture.

India

People see India as this poor country with a ton of smog and cows crossing the street. But have you been to India recently? It’s a booming economy with people that are getting more eco-friendly and cities that beam prosperity and urbanism combined with culture and history.

Sure, there are still villages which live the old-fashioned way but the best thing about India is that you can have the best of both worlds.

If you truly want to see the world, you have to abandon your stereotypes. Remember that you can’t really get to know a country unless you go there yourself.
