Paranormal Reserve 2021: Harridan Vodka Aged in 3 Haunted Places

Harridan Vodka Paranormal Reserve
Harridan’s limited edition bottles rested in some of America’s Most Haunted Houses

Ageing spirits of the alcoholic variety in haunted places? What might that do them? “Them” being the alcohol but maybe it has some effect on the restless spirits too? These are but two of the many questions I have about Harridan Vodka’s Paranormal Reserve.

According to ComicBook, before Harridan’s Paranormal Reserve went on sale on October 13, 2021, it rested for seven days in three of America’s most haunted places: the Villisca Axe Murder House, Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, and Farm on Round Top Road, which inspired the movie The Conjuring.

If you were hoping to snag a bottle, though, too bad. They’re all already sold out. (I don’t even drink vodka, but I might’ve considered buying a bottle. You’ll see why later in this post.)

It’s not too surprising really. The Paranormal Reserve was a small batch, only 60 bottles. Let’s take a look at the haunted places where it was stored, as well as get more acquainted with Harridan.

About Harridan Vodka

Harridan, which means “bossy, belligerent old woman,” is an homage to the bold and bellicose women of the past, whose defiance often made them a target. It was designed for a new generation of considered drinkers, who are tired of obsolete gender dynamics in the alcohol industry. Harridan’s appeals to a growing, societal interest in spirituality, mysticism, and self-determination.

“We’re a feminist spirit,” says Harridan founder and CEO Bridgett Taylor. “But that doesn’t mean we can’t be dark. We designed Harridan to defy what is expected of women in the industry, and the Paranormal Reserve is just the beginning.”

Not only does founder Taylor’s company craft vodka, but also a great tagline: The Spirit of Defiance. (The rebel and non-conformist in me appreciate this spirit.)

Paranormal Reserve Batch No. 1

The Paranormal Reserve packaging is why I totally would’ve bought a bottle of this vodka, even though I can’t drink any. (Sadly, I have an intolerance for it. I’m lacking something to properly digest it so all it does is make me immediately violently ill. Lucky me.)

Anyway, each hand-numbered bottle comes with a handmade leather neck tag specifying which haunted place it was aged in. It also includes documentation for authenticity, a history of the haunted location, and “cloth gloves for handling.” It’s nestled in a really cool-looking wooden case engraved with “Paranormal Reserve” on it. (Okay, so it’s really that box I wanted. Well, and one of those neck tags.)

Because I’m no vodka expert, the thing that popped out to me was the cloth gloves. What’s up with that? I’m going to reach out to Harridan’s and see if they’ll agree to an interview…or if they’ll at least answer some of my questions via email.

However, even though I may have been tempted to buy a bottle just for the novelty of it, each cost $140. Gulp! Too rich for my blood.

Paranormal Reserve Batch No. 1 Haunted Locations

Of the 60 bottles for the 2021 Paranormal Reserve, 36 were aged in the Conjuring House, a.k.a. the Farm on Round Top Road. 12 each were aged at the Villisca Axe Murder House and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

Were they stored in a specific place within each location? Yes!

In the Conjuring House, they rested in a few places, including

  • The upstairs middle bedroom—even The Sleepless Unrest pointed out was one of the most active in the house
  • The seance room on the main floor
  • In the basement after being lowered into the well. (The basement and the well were also memorable scenes during The Sleepless Unrest‘s exploration.)

Where else would you expect to store the vodka in the Villisca Axe Murder House except in the infamous attic?

And the lobotomy room made the perfect resting place for its bottles of Paranormal Reserve at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

Will there be a Paranormal Reserve Batch No. 2?

Yes! According to their website, they’ll release Batch No. 2 in October 2022. They also state that they’ll age them inside three new paranormal locations.

Which ones? Who knows? But as soon as I find out, you know I’ll share that info!

  1. One of these bottles would make a great Christmas present for a horror fan who drinks. I don’t drink, but I’d gift a bottle that was aged in the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. I figure you’re a little off-kilter anyway when you drink, so if the bottle has a bit of a disturbed vibe, well, all the better!:-)
