Call the Midwife and the paranormal may seem like an unlikely pairing, but my heart belongs to both. I especially love the Call the Midwife Christmas specials. The season 10 Christmas special will premiere on December 25, 2020 on PBS. (Along with Bridgerton on Netflix and Wonder Woman: 1984 in theaters and on HBOMax. Now that’s what I call a Merry Christmas!) However, in the Call the Midwife 2019 Christmas special both of my loves combined and I’ve recently had a chance to explore the four Scottish haunts that either appeared in, or are connected with, that episode.
Virtually, of course. This is 2020 we’re talking about. I wish I’d had the chance to make a return trip to Scotland. The little time I got to spend there several years ago rank among some of my happiest travel memories.
Anyway, back to these four Scottish haunts.
It Started, as All Good Tales Do, with a Ghost Story
I briefly remember some ghost story hubbub last year when the Call the Midwife 2019 Christmas special aired.
It wasn’t until this year that I had time to fully understand and appreciate the paranormal connection, however. In addition to maintaining HJ, I’m also a contributor at Netflix Life. I wrote some Call the Midwife articles over there recently, including:

See? I told you I have a thing for the Christmas specials. And writing about them is how I came to learn more about the haunted castle the cast stayed in during the filming of the 2019 Christmas special.
However, there were also three other places featured in that episode that made me wonder if they had any ghost stories too: a lighthouse, a church, and a group of standing stones. So I did some digging and what I found out about all of them is pretty cool. Some, like the lighthouse, even has a seasonal connection.
We’ll take a look at all of them, but first, let’s take a look at where the Call the Midwife 2019 Christmas special was filmed and the church with a mass murderer and naughty bits that much of it was set in.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, as well as obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.

I love Call the Midwife! Even though it’s kind of, I dunno, womanly, my husband loves the show too! We both enjoyed The Lighthouse movie as well. I didn’t know the Hebrides were so full of history. Interesting post! I’m looking forward to the Call the Midwife 2020 Christmas special!

I’m SO excited to know another fan!!!! I swear, I think you’d be so interesting to have dinner with. Or a coffee. I imagine we’d talk and talk. I’m super excited about watching this year’s special too. And I was shocked to learn so much about the Outer Hebrides…beyond there was a spooky stay the cast had slept in! So I’m excited you got a kick out of learning about all these places too!
