Streaming Bonanza: Netflix Thrills with Three Mid-April Releases

Last week when I reviewed Cargo, I wrote about my Netflix queue. Specifically, how I ended up watching Cargo as part of my Queue Spring Cleaning. Which turned out to be good, because I made room for a bunch of mid-April releases.

Obviously this lists isn’t everything that was released on Netflix for our streaming pleasure within the past few days. Just the scary stuff. (Or scary looking. Watching will tell if it’s scary good or scary bad.)

1. Black Summer – Released April 11

In the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, complete strangers band together to find the strength they need to survive and get back to loved ones.

If you like zombies a là Z Nation or The Walking Dead, this may be for you. (Speaking of Z Nation, Black Summer comes from the same creators.)

2. The Silence – Released April 12

When the world is under attack from creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, a teenager who lost her hearing at 13, and her family, seek safety in a remote refuge. However, they discover a cult who are eager to exploit her heightened senses.

This movie is very similar to A Quiet Place with a little Bird Box thrown in. It’s based on the book of the same name by Tim Lebbons, which got great reviews on Amazon. It’s set overseas, whereas the movie takes place in the U.S. (And, judging by early reviews, the movie version isn’t as good.)

3. Thriller – Released April 14

When a prank goes wrong, a shy kid from Compton is sent away for murder. Four years later, he’s back and out for revenge on homecoming weekend.

This slasher film was a surprise Blumhouse release on Netflix this weekend. So if you like any of the “Into the Dark” Blumhouse installments on Hulu and have already watched them all, including this month’s, or if you’re not subscribed to Hulu, but want a Blumhouse production fix without a triup to the theater, here you go.
