Sci-Fi World FINALLY a Done Deal: Opens May 27, 2024

Sci-Fi World Coming Soon

Will Sci-Fi World really open this time? It’s a valid question since this wouldn’t be the first time they announced an opening date.

Back in 2021, they announced the museum was coming in Summer 2022. They even launched a Kickstarter campaign to help meet that deadline. Sadly, the campaign failed to raise the $350,000 goal.

However, at the time, John Purdy, Sci-Fi World’s CEO, acknowledged that even though it was a frustrating setback, “some new opportunities” had presented themselves thanks to the fundraiser. He didn’t blatantly state he was confident the museum would finally open, but his message exuded that sentiment.

And now it appears it’s really happening. The building’s not only completed, but this time tickets are already on sale too. And one of the things included with the ticket is admission to explore their 35-foot Millennium Falcon. Which, if you’re a Star Wars fan and have never visited Galaxy’s Edge and ridden Smuggler’s Run (where you get to fly in the Millennium Falcon) at Disneyland or Walt Disney World, Sci-Fi World would be another fun alternative to indulge your inner Han Solo.

In addition to a Star Wars exhibit area, there are four others:

  1. Hall of Heroes
  2. Hall of Robots
  3. Star Trek, which includes replicas of both the original Star Trek bridge and the one from Star Trek: Next Generation.
  4. Oblivion, which includes the “Bubbleship” and Drones from the movie Oblivion starring Tom Cruise.

According to a video on their site narrated by Summer Glau (Firefly, Serenity, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Sci-Fi World is located in Santa Monica, California, between the 3rd Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier.
