Are you a fan of the Paranormal Activity franchise? If so, maybe you heard back in 2019 that there would be a new Paranormal Activity movie coming out and it was supposed to happen this year. It would make the seventh installment in the franchise’s lineup.
The release date was set for Mar. 19, 2021. However, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been delayed again until March 2022. The new target release date is Mar. 4, 2022, to be exact.
What’s it going to be called? Will it have a theme? Will it still be filmed in a found footage kind of way? Basically, what do we know about the newest Paranormal Activity movie so far?
Well, not much. However, we know a couple of things, so let’s take a look at that.
What We Know About Paranormal Activity 7 So Far
Deadline summed it up best: “Plot details are being kept secret.” Something that IMDB confirmed, which lists the brief description so far as: “Plot kept under wraps.”
What’s interesting though, and what’s puzzling me, is…how were they going to get it out this year? It doesn’t even appear it’s started filming.
In fact, it seems like it was only recently confirmed who the director would be. Which is William Eubank, who directed Underwater, a 2020 sci-fi horror movie that got fair reviews, but not glowing. (So if you hadn’t heard of it either, you’re not alone. But if you like films with mysterious sea creatures, it may be one to add to your watch list.)
Thanks to Deadline we also know a few of the other people involved in Paranormal Activity 7.
Christopher Landon (who wrote Happy Death Day and Paranormal Activities 2 through 4) will write this one too.
Jason Blum and Oren Peli will again produce, with Steven Schneider back as executive producer.
We don’t have any idea which actors will be involved yet though.
A Brief History of the Paranormal Activity Franchise
The original Paranormal Activity movie wowed and terrified viewers when it was released in 2007. It was the brainchild of writer, producer, director Oren Peli.
The first movie was shot on a budget of $15,000, but the worldwide gross box office went on to net almost $194 million. That, as my husband would say, is a stellar return on investment (ROI). It’s also what caught the eye of studios and why it conjured up sequels.
Well, that and audiences mostly loved it.
The franchise has continued to do well monetarily. Their budgets went up a lot after that, starting with $3 million for Paranormal Activity 2. It was $5 million each for 3, 4 and 5, which is known as Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. The sixth film, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, had the biggest budget yet: $10 mil.
The first three sequels saw a similar ROI as the original film as far as world wide box office gross goes: $177,512,032 for PA2, $207,039,844 for PA3, and $142,817,992 for PA4.
The Marked Ones and The Ghost Dimension didn’t do quite as well as their predecessors with world wide box office grosses of $90,904,854 and $78,903,124, respectively. Which still isn’t too shabby, but it’s not as strong as the others.
As far as audience reception, none of them have been as well-received as the first one either. The third one was the second best-liked one, followed by Paranormal Activity 2, then The Marked Ones, the fourth film, and by far the least liked that got mostly negative reviews was The Ghost Dimension.
How will the seventh movie in the Paranormal Activity franchise fare? Guess we’ll find out when it’s released next year!

Oh you bring up a good point…Blumhouse is famous for keeping plots under wraps to build interest. I must say it’s a good strategy…totally works with me everytime! lol
