Ghoulish Goodies Podcast Episode and Video

On Friday November 1 (a.k.a. Dia de los Muertos) I had a great conversation with Kevin, Head Ghoul for Ghoulish Goodies, which I recorded for the podcast. Kevin is super passionate about Halloween and horror. We’ve been in touch ever since he launched his business. (It’s coming up on its year anniversary.)

I’ve even written a post or two about the company over the past year. But I never thought about asking Kevin for an interview until recently. I thought that might make a neat episode for the podcast.

To my delight, Kevin said he’d be game so we made it happen. But I had no idea just what a true delight it would be…

Ghoulish Goodies is Born

Among the things I asked Kevin was “Why Ghoulish Goodies? How did this come about?”

Life. It placed a bit of a detour in his road, causing him to change careers. He found himself asking, “What do I really like to do? What makes me happy?”

The answer was horror, Halloween and art. He was a fan of mystery boxes and subscription boxes, but where were the boxes for the people who were Halloween 24/7/365? Or the fans of Michael, Jason, Freddy and Chucky?

There were a couple things that sort of filled the niche, but not really. Not to the extent Kevin felt it could be done.

Everyday is Halloween

At Ghoulish Goodies, Kevin attempts to capture the magic, mystery and excitement of Christmas morning and Halloween night. You know that sweet anticipation of wondering what’s waiting for you under the tree and what kind of goodies will you have collected in your trick or treat sack?

Yep. That.

He pours that into every detail of his boxes, from hand wrapping each gift in custom paper to the choice of candy. You never know what you’re going to get. You just know it’s going to be a lot of stuff related to whichever theme you picked.

And that’s what adds to the fun, right? As my A Haunt Mess podcast co-host Sara said to Deedee (our other co-host) and I as we prepped for our Halloween mukbang episode, “That’s what Halloween is all about, right? The assortment. You never knew what kind of candy you’d get from house to house when you went trick or treating, but at the end of the night when you went to rummage through it all, were you ever really disappointed?”

Nope!

Pick Your Passion

What floats your boat? Witches? Vampires? Zombies? A certain horror movie franchise villain? Even a certain horror movie, say Evil Dead or Nightmare Before Christmas?

Kevin’s got a box to meet your needs –and if it’s not there, he’ll custom make one for you.

And you can bet along with whatever goodies are inside, there’s a lot of love too.

Video Inspiration

I’ve been wanting to do more with HJ’s YouTube channel, but I’ve once again let it sit idle.

Putting together the podcast episodes offers a new avenue for creating videos, though, and my chat with Kevin prompted a light bulb moment. I wanted to “show” people everything we were talking about, like the invisible man “action figure.” (OMG I’m in love with that!)

Hard to “show” via a podcast, though. Easier with a blog, like I’m doing now, or even a video.

I decided now was as good a time as any to start, so below you’ll find both the video and podcast episode embeds.

Budget Box Surprise

Trust me, you’re going to want to listen and/or watch this episode. Especially if you’re a newsletter subscriber.

Not a subscriber? Depending on when you read this, you may not get to “cash in” so to speak, but within the episode is another example of why you want to sign up. I know how to treat my subscribers right!
