When In Search of Monsters premiered on Travel Channel in April, they published “The 8 Best Places to See Bigfoot Right Now.”

They used never before released data from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). It was exclusive tracking information from BFRO’s Follow-up Log and Tracking System (FLATS) –”the world’s ultimate sasquatch database of compiled sightings and testimonies.”

That’s how Travel Channel determined the best states where you might have a Bigfoot encounter are these eight:

8. Texas

Sightings: 806

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: “East Texas, especially the areas that border Oklahoma and Louisiana.”

7. Oregon

Sightings: 1,009

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: Doesn’t specify in the Travel Channel article, but according to The Guardian, head towards Mount Hood National Forest and the upper Clackamas and Breitenbush River drainages, a.k.a. The Oregon Bigfoot Highway.

6. Ohio

Sightings: 1,042

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: The eastern half in the hills and forests of Ohio’s Appalachian plateau.

Note: If you hear anyone talking about “the grassman,” that’s Bigfoot. That’s what they affectionately call him around those parts.

5. New York

Sightings: 1,068

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: Whitehall, New York, near Lake George. It’s considered the Bigfoot capital of the east coast.

Note: There’s been so many sightings here, Bigfoot has been named the official town animal.

4. Michigan

Sightings: 1,131

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: The Seney National Wildlife Refuge in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Question: Do you think Michigan’s Dogman and their Bigfoot get together and have howling/yowling contests?

3. Pennsylvania

Sightings: 1,340

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: The Appalachian range.

2. California

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot: Northern California, home of the infamous Patterson-Gimlin film, perhaps one of the most studied Bigfoot video recordings ever made.

1. Washington

Best place within the state where you might meet Bigfoot:  The Blue Mountains, Okanogan County, and Ape Canyon are all active and popular Bigfoot encounter areas. However, beware. Ape Canyon is also where one of the most aggressive encounters on record happened.

Have you ever been Bigfoot hunting? Were you surprised any states weren’t on the list? Or maybe by any states that were?

I was surprised Alaska wasn’t on there. And that Oregon ranked closer to the end than the top. I figured it’d be in contention with Washington.
