The Stuart House Recordings: A Paranormal DaVinci Code

On a recent visit to Paranormal Searchers I was intrigued by something I saw in their sidebar: The Stuart House Recordings. I clicked the image and was taken to a blog post about it.  

Whoa. It reminded me of a combo of The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, even though its Twitter bio (@StuartHouseMvie) compares it to something else: “The Stuart House Recordings is an old-fashioned ghost story which promises to be a paranormal da Vinci Code.”

It’s supposedly a documentary based on real events and shows real footage of a team that went missing when they went to investigate the Stuart House. Here’s an excerpt from the post:

Stuart House is considered by some scholars, to be the most active (and likely most dangerous) haunting in the northern hemisphere. It is by the same token, the most unknown.

Dr Francis Morgan, one of the famous Amityville Horror debunkers and noted author discovered Stuart House. He’s quoted as saying “it’s like the house actively avoids notice, as if it sits underneath some great, black shroud, escaping any real attention.”

There have been two known investigations of Stuart House. Both have been problematic; with several deaths occurring, or as in the case of the 2009 investigation, possible loss of the entire team, who have since been listed as missing.

Let’s just say after reading the post about it, the marketing idea reminds me of Paranormal Activity, and even to some extent The Fourth Kind. They’re trying to set it up as real, but guess what? For being one of the most haunted places in the northern hemisphere, it truly is one of the “most unknown.” I’ve never heard of any “Stuart House” and if it was that haunted I would’ve.

Also, notice how they’re careful not to specify where exactly in the northern hemisphere this supposedly uber haunted place resides. If they couldn’t make some place up, they could’ve at least added a disclaimer about withholding location details so as not to encourage trespassing because of the danger. That would’ve added to the story’s allure.

However, I’m not going to hold any of this against the movie. You know why? Because their PR mission worked. I’m intrigued. I’d like to see more. So much so I even tracked down a trailer. (Below.)

Beause I love horror movies, I’m actually hoping this will be a good one. It does look like it has potential. (Even if I spot holes in their publicity.)

The Stuart House Recordings is due to be released sometime in Fall of this year. (They exercised good strategy there. Right in time to cash in on Halloween!)
