If you’re a fan of Joshua Gates and Destination Truth and have missed seeing him on Syfy, never fear. He’s coming back! Just not on Destination Truth. He’ll be part of a new crop of Syfy paranormal reality shows premiering in 2013 that I learned about from an article on TVbytheNumbers.

GHOST MINE – Premieres Wednesday, January 16 at 10PM

Forgotten in the remote woods of Oregon is one of the richest gold mines in the United States that was abandoned 80 years ago when a series of tragedies gave it an infamous reputation for being haunted. Now, a new owner has decided to take on the notorious legend and reopen the mine, assembling a colorful team of miners – both seasoned and new – to battle the elements in hopes of finding their fortune and teaming them with a pair of experienced paranormal investigators.

In each of the six hour-long episodes, this strong-willed and historically superstitious group of miners will face the day-to-day challenges of mining, aided by the paranormal investigators who unravel the mysteries surrounding the mine, including historic Masonic connections and a spirit who has been known to haunt the area for generations.

STRANDED – Premieres Wednesday, February 27 at 10PM

Ping Pong Productions (Destination Truth, Finding Bigfoot) joins forces with Josh Gates (star of Syfy’s travel-adventure series Destination Truth) and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, The River) to create Stranded, an all-new six-episode reality series that documents an unconventional – and terrifying – paranormal and psychological experiment. Each hour-long episode features the self-recorded footage of a diverse group of every-day paranormal enthusiasts – from newlyweds and a brother-in-law to a trio of roommates. Each team of three will be stranded at one of the most haunted locations in America and record the entire experience with hand-held cameras.

The footage from the subjects’ cameras will be supplemented by strategically-placed security cameras at each location, creating a suspenseful, completely unscripted first-hand account of each group’s stay. Over the course of the confinement, the subjects contend with increasingly pervasive feelings of fear and desolation, resulting in an experiment that represents a unique combination of psychology and the paranormal.

NOTORIOUS HAUNTINGS (Working Title) – Premieres Spring 2013

Produced by Pilgrim Studios – the company behind Syfy’s Ghost Hunters, the most successful paranormal franchise on cable – Notorious Hauntings features a group of researchers who investigate reports of extreme and dangerous supernatural activity across the globe. In each of the six self-contained episodes, viewers will follow the investigators as they not only research the otherworldly activity at each site, but also explore the gruesome history of the infamous and heinous individuals, their crimes and victims, to determine if they are the cause of the present-day haunting. Through the gathering of evidence and the uncovering of little-known history, Notorious Hauntings will explore some of the world’s most enduring mysteries, including the case of Jack the Ripper in London and the legendary Dracula in Romania and Slovakia.

  1. Actually, just FYI, the way I understand it from the news I’ve heard from those who caught the Syfy press release is that Josh is a producer and showrunner for Stranded. I might be wrong, but I don’t believe we’ll be seeing him on camera. 🙁 So he may be back but only in a behind the scenes way. Of course, I’ll watch to support him as it’s one of his projects. But dangit, I want DT back!!! Need my joking Josh & Ryder brigthening up my week. LOL Still no yay or nay from Syfy as to whether DT will be returning or not. No official cancellation, but no clue as to what their plans are for it either. :-/

Aw crap. I was so excited to see his name I was hoping we’d see him. But after re-reading the release, you’re right. Rats. Well, I’ll still watch. Sounds a lot like that show that was on ABC Family…Scariest Places on Earth I think it was called? I liked that show too. And of course DT. It gives me hope they haven’t outright cancelled it, but…I’d really rather see them doing it!!!!

  3. I forgot about that one! I was thinking, though it was done more as a competition/game show kinda thing, but Fear on MTV where they left small groups of contestants in haunted location with no video crew, documenting their own experiences. See, this is the thing, some of this stuff they’re coming out with it just feels like, it’s already been done. Why not focus more on the quality of those shows that are popular because they are different? DT brings so much to the table…travel, adventure, paranormal both in the way of investigating hauntings and cryptids, humor, human interest, etc. I don’t know. I guess we’ll see when the new shows come out what they have to offer. But meanwhile, I don’t like the feeling that fans of Syfy and shows like DT are being left in the lurch with no answers. It kinda feels like they’re saying, “Here, we’ll hand you three new paranormal shows and maybe you’ll all stop asking us about this one.” I get the feeling it’s largely due to the cost of producing DT (or rather, buying it from the production company as Syfy does) that they’re trying to find something to replace it with that will appease the fans and save them some dough. Again, I might be wrong, but since Syfy won’t say what’s up, guessing is all we’ve got.

Ah, yes. Fear didn’t last too long did it? Also, I’m very impressed with your knowledge of all the shows. And how they get to TV and such. And your summation of DT is brilliant. That’s exactly what I find appealing about it! And this comment is why I respect you so much. You know your stuff!
