Halloween 2014 Boasts Scariest Horror Movies In Years

From time to time I like to watch movie trailers. Like last Friday. I sat down to lunch, but didn’t have a lot of time. I didn’t want to get invested in a show or movie, so I decided to quickly scan and see what kind of trailers looked interesting on Hulu Plus.

That’s how I found Exists. (In theaters and VOD 10/24.)

I’m sort of partial to monster movies. If they’re done right. This one looks promising. Here’s the synopsis and trailer.

All Brian (Chris Osborn) and Matt (Samuel Davis) want to do is have a wild party with their friends out in the woods. They figure that their uncle’s secluded cabin is a prime location, as it was abandoned long ago and is unlikely to have anyone complaining about the noise. What they did not plan on is for the legendary Sasquatch (Brian Steele), who calls the east Texas woods his home, to start stalking the party goers one by one.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about another horror movie I found while browsing trailers: Housebound. Between it and Exists, I started to get excited. What if there were other promising looking horror movies coming out I wasn’t aware of yet?

I decided to see if there were. Bingo! (What else did I really expect? ‘Tis the season for them, right?)

One thing that struck me was most seem to be indies. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Some greats have started that way, like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. In fact, thank God for indies. They’re not remaking old classics and ruining them. There’s some originality here.

Another thing that struck me was how long my Want To See list suddenly became. It’s been a lot of Halloweens since I had a list this long…or with ones that looked so scary.

Here’s all the ones I want to see, complete with synopses and trailers where applicable.

I’m probably most drawn to Stephen King’s A Good Marriage, because it’s Stephen King. The Houses October Built also looks very scary to me, mostly because of the creepy doll face antagonist.

Which ones look scary to you?
