Half-Way to Halloween: Year Round Haunted Attractions

IMG_4072

April 30 is about as close as you can get to it being the official half-way to Halloween mark. I thought it’d be fun to share some year-round haunted attractions. (For those of you, unlike myself, who are not too bawk, bawk chicken butt to enjoy such scariness.)

Ghostly Manor – Sandusky, Ohio

This place sounds very interesting. It’s a “Thrill Center” that, in addition to its Ghostly Manor haunted house, also has a bounce house and play area (making it super family-friendly), roller skating, mini golf, and a 4D motion-simulated ride.

Prices for the Ghostly Manor are $11. It’s open year round but times vary based on the day of the week and the season.

Haunted Mayfield Manor – Galveston, TX

The neat thing about this haunt is that, in addition to being a haunted attraction, they include this in their FAQs: “We have experienced some unexplainable occurrences during the construction of the Manor and we welcome any paranormal investigators who are interested in conducting an investigation to contact us.”

A haunted, haunted attraction? Neat. Of course investigations are not included in the price of admission, which will run you $10 for general admission. Contact them about what they charge for a paranormal investigation.

Mysterious Mansion of Gatlinburg – Gatlinburg, Tennessee

This haunt presents you with the chance to take a self-guided tour of a “classic turn-of-the-century house.” A classic turn-of-the-century haunted house, that is. Inside you’ll find “secret passageways, eerie dark corridors, winding staircases, and spine chilling chambers.” Along with “restless, rotting residents” that may be lurking around the next corner…or stalking you from behind.

Tickets are $13 for adults and $9 for children, which includes tax.

Nightmare Haunted House – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

One of their claims to fame is they boast “over 3,000 square feet of terror.” The theme on their website as of the writing of this post is “Monsters of the Midway.” Scary. They also advertise something called The Paranormal Show with the Paranormalist Nobody Jones, “a 30 minute spell-binding trip to the other side.” All aboard!

They’re open seven days a week in-season (June-August.) They recommend calling ahead for off-season hours.

General admission is $12. Kids 12 and under are $8.

Nightmare Mansion – Virginia Beach, Virginia

This is a walk-through haunted house that supposedly only takes 5 to 10 minutes to go through. (Depending on how fast you decide to cruise through it.) Operating hours vary by season and weather. For Spring, they’re open Saturday and Sundays. Cost is $9 per “victim.” (I thought that was cute.)

Nightmares Fear Factory – Niagra Falls, Canada

Their claim to fame is all the people who haven’t been able to make it the whole way through. To be exact, over 130,000 “have chickened out. It’s that scary.”

If you want to pay to try your luck, general admission starts at $13.95 for adults, $10.25 for children.

Raven’s Grin Inn – Mount Carroll, IL

You’ll get bang for your buck with this haunt. Not only will your tour last 1 to 1 1/2 hours, but this is another haunted attraction that is allegedly really haunted. The start of your tour will even tell you about some of the occurrences and sightings from other guests. But the thing its most known for is its indoor slides. I also read there are coffin-shaped hallways. Sounds very cool.

Another thing that sounds cool is you can rent the house for $100/hour for Hide and Seek. If you gather 10 friends, that’s only $10/person. I’d totally be in for that!

Admission is $15, and $13 for children 9 and under.

Ripley’s Haunted Adventure – Gatlinburg, Tennessee

10,000 square feet. Live actors. Scares in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. Fun way to liven up a family vacation.

Prices start at $13.99, but you can get combo tickets to any of Ripley’s other Gatlinburg attractions (like the aquarium, Odditorium, Mirror Maze, Moving Theater, two different mini golf courses, or the Guinness World Book) to cut costs.

Ripley’s Haunted Adventure – San Antonio, Texas

Would you call yourself a screamer? If so, Ripley’s Haunted Adventure San Antonio welcomes you to their “multi million dollar haunted house with live actors and special effects.”

Tickets start at $20.99, but if you combine them with other Ripley’s San Antonio attractions like Tomb Rider or Guinness World Records for $23.99 to $28.99 (if you do all three).
