You may have suspected but did you know for sure that certain Stranger Things 4 scenes were partially filmed in Europe? And you may guess that HBO’s forthcoming The House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps with many exotic European filming locations again.

Which, as PlayOjo recently pointed out, begs the question: Is Europe becoming an extension of Hollywood?

They examined six highly-anticipated series and movies and discovered that tourists might not need to take a trip to Los Angeles to bump into the biggest stars this summer. Not when the EU and the British Isles are such filming hotspots.

From Sicily’s California-like sunshine to the gothic charm of West Yorkshire, let’s see what was filmed where.

A table PlayOjo created detailing the upcoming shows and movie filming locations in Europe.

1. Stranger Things 4

The Russian storyline of the new season was shot in its entirety in the magnificent capital of Lithuania. Although the filmmakers’ main focus was the recently abandoned Lukiškes Prison, which drew its fair share of controversy. Fans of the show may be interested in discovering one of the most stunning European capitals, which often flies under the radar when it comes to top tourist destinations.

2. House of The Dragon

If you are a huge Game of Thrones fan then I know you’re excited about what’s in store for the prequel, House of the Dragon, too. The show, much like its predecessor, was filmed in various locations including Spain and the UK. The fantasy series really seeks to embody the gothic atmosphere of the Middle Ages through its use of historic locations.

3. Marvel’s Secret Invasion

Emilia Clarke is better known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. Fans won’t see her in the House of the Dragon prequel but she does join Samuel L. Jackson in Marvel’s miniseries, Secret Invasion. They made their way to the region of West Yorkshire to film. In fact, they were spotted in the streets of Leeds and Halifax earlier this year.

4. Mission Impossible 7

From Casino Royale (2006) to Spiderman: Far From Home (2019), Venice has always been a popular film destination for movie characters. The floating city is the last addition to Mission Impossible’s incredible travelogue. In addition to Italy, it was also shot in The UK and Norway. The film has been shot in so many different countries that there is a chance that you have stumbled onto the set at one point or another, wherever in the world you reside. However, the real stunts of megastar Tom Cruise require the perfect location, and what’s better than Venice?

5. Indiana Jones 5

Speaking of Venice and travelogues, the latest and highly anticipated Indiana Jones sequel will feature the marvels of Italy, England, and Morocco. Perhaps tourists and fans alike can attempt to duplicate the adventurous archaeologist with an international journey of their own. From the exceptional beaches of Sicily to the world-class museums Glasgow has to offer, there is a lot to make everyone happy.

6. Disenchanted

The Enchanted sequel will take place in Dublin, the immensely charming Irish capital, known as the magical birthplace of so many fairy tales and legends. The movie will see the return of its famous on-screen couple: heartthrob Patrick Dempsey and the immensely talented Amy Adams, who both reprise their roles in the new movie.
