I just read “Does Your Pet See Ghosts?” on KYPost.com. It wasn’t a very big article, but it caught my eye because (a) it had to do with ghosts, and (b) it mentioned pets.
Turns out Bobby Mackey’s Music World is opening it’s doors to pets to try their paws at ghost hunting this Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. It’s for a new show to premiere on Animal Planet called “Haunted Animals.” (The producers are looking for stories of either paranormal experiences you’ve had with your pet or a ghost animal you’ve encountered. I’ve been wondering when someone would get smart and get animals in on the act. An episode of GHI sort of introduced a dog into the mix when they investigated Houska Castle in the Czech Republic. But as far as including an animal as a team member during investigations…hadn’t been done yet.
Which, being the animal lover I am and firm believer their senses may be just as helpful as any other instrument in detecting paranormal activity, I was thinking it was a shame no one’s exploring this avenue more. I know I’d take my Murphy with me on a ghost hunt.
Or, even better, Mr. Meow. I have a story with him I just may submit to the show. He sensed the Angel of Death the night before our beloved cocker, Budly, passed. If he traveled better I’d definitely take him Haunt Jaunting with me.
(Actually, he travels pretty good really. He did fine on our Tennessee to Colorado and then back again Christmas road trip one year. We rented a mini-van, put him and his brother Murphy in the back, and they shared the middle row together. As long as he’s out of his crate he’s cool. He gets mouthy when he’s locked up though.)

Yeah, I wrote a post about that a while back. Dogs are ideal for ghost hunts! I can’t believe people don’t use them regularly, especially if you’re not a particularly sensitive person. Of course, they can get off the track when there’s a rat around, but most of the time, they’re very keen to protect their owner and aware of any changes in the room. I don’t have a dog now, hoping to get one soon after grieving the loss of two fantastic dogs, but I hope to use my dog on ghost hunts when I get it.
Oh dang it! I think I remember reading that. Did you write it around the time of the GHI episode? I forgot all about that. Shoot. I should have referenced it. Sorry about that. And I’m really sorry about the loss of your dogs. Saying goodbye to our four-legged family members is just plain awful! I’m like you…I have to go through a grieving period. I’m not one to rush out and “replace.” Family, pets included, are irreplaceable. It’s all about being ready to form a new bond…and that’s whenever your heart is ready. I’ll look forward to the day when you write about taking your new buddy on hunts with you though!
You don’t need to reference me. I think it’s cool that we notice the same things and they draw our attention. We really do think alike. It’s been years since our dogs passed but hubby and I can’t agree on dogs. We both want them, but he wants only outdoors dogs (in Arizona–nope!) and I want an indoor/outdoor dog with a doggy door. He hates that idea. So, like most things, we just avoid making a decision. I think for me, I’d need a black dog with white paws and name him “Spook.” Perfect for a ghost hunter!
I think it’s cause we’re both Virgos! Also, I like referencing your stuff. It’s very good and it’s nice to have something solid to reference! I get mad at myself when I miss a chance to do that.
And the fact you’ve got that specific of an idea in mind for a pooch…I wouldn’t be surprised if one wanders into your life one day. (And hopefully into your husband’s heart. Mine wasn’t too keen about me adding to our fur family a couple years ago when I stopped to pick up a cat from the middle of the road. A car had run over her…well straddled her, she was fine, but I knew she’d been lucky. No way could I leave her there to get smooshed! Anyway, he cussed and spit about why couldn’t I just drop her at the humane society rather than fostering her while trying to locate her people…but a week later he pitched a fit when a woman wanted to come see if the cat was hers. “She’s not her cat. She’s ours!” he pouted. Needless to say Tabby quickly wormed her way into his heart…and is now a cherished member of the family.) I hope the same thing happens when you find your Spook!
