5 Other Shows to Watch If You Like Netflix’s Wednesday

Is Netflix’s Wednesday just a guilty pleasure or a really good spin-off based on The Addams Family TV series? I’d argue it’s both. And as far as guilty pleasures go, when they’re as binge-able as Wednesday? Lock me up!

But that’s the trouble with this new streaming world we live in, where we can consume a whole season in a matter of days. We find ourselves longing for more while we count down the days until we hear the news that there will be another season of our newfound favorite show. Then the excruciating wait begins anew for news of when it’ll start. Which is usually many months or more than a year away in most cases. If the show gets renewed, that is.

However, given what a huge hit Wednesday has been, I feel confident predicting there’ll be another season. I enter Deadline’s article as exhibit A into evidence. The headline says it’s all: “‘Wednesday’ Summons Record-Breaking Debut Week On Netflix With 341.23M Hours Viewed.” (It beat out the much-anticipated premiere of Stranger Things season 4, which set the record for most hours viewed earlier this year.)

Anyway, back to our dilemma. What’s a binger to do in the meantime? Look for other shows to fill the void, naturally. If you find yourself in need of a Wednesday-like fix, here’s a list of some shows that have a similar feel.

However, there’s a chance you’ve seen most of them. But in case you put off watching for one reason or another, giving them a chance now may help tide you over until Wednesday season 2 is served.

5. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix)

I’ll start with the most obvious show, which is also another Netflix hit. Not that Wednesday Addams is a witch, but she does give off a certain witchy vibe.

As for other similarities it shares, if you like the whole, outcast/misfit teens with special powers coming of age in a boarding school thing, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina grapples with many of the same supernatural horror conundrums as Wednesday.

4. Riverdale (CW)

I’d be remiss not to mention Riverdale since Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was meant to be a companion series to it. Both shows are based on characters from Archie Comics. Like Wednesday, Riverdale blends elements of supernatural horror with crime and drama. It all starts when a teenager is murdered, and the town’s teens are drawn into the mystery to determine whodunit…and why.

Where to watch: Riverdale was renewed for a seventh and final season, which will premiere on The CW in mid-2023. The first six seasons are streaming on Netflix. You can also purchase episodes on Prime Video, Vudu, and Apple TV.

3. Nancy Drew (CW)

There’s a supernatural aspect to this series, which is based on the popular mystery novel series of the same name. But true to the girl sleuth’s M.O., there’s also a mystery aspect reminiscent of the mysteries Wednesday Addams finds herself solving.

Where to watch: The fourth and final season of Nancy Drew will air in 2023 on The CW. HBO Max has the first three seasons. You can also purchase episodes on Prime Video, Vudu, and Apple TV.

2. Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix)

Rotten Tomatoes critics panned Fate: The Winx Saga (45% Tomatometer score), but it was well received by audiences (83% average audience score). Kind of like all the other shows on this list so far, it’s inspired by something else. Namely, the animated Nickelodeon series Winx Club.

There’s a boarding school in this series, too. Well, it’s more of a magical college, Alfea, in the Otherworld for fairies to attend. And very much like those in Wednesday who want to see Nevermore destroyed, there are monsters that want to see Alfea destroyed, too.

Also, much like Wednesday Addams, Bloom Peters in the Winx Saga finds herself figuring out her powers while discovering her parents’ secrets and developing friendships. And it’s the friends in both series that prove the most powerful, both for Wednesday and Bloom, but also for saving their schools.

1. The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

This is another show based on a popular mystery novel series of the same name. While there’s a little bit of a supernatural element to this series that follows the Hardy brothers, Frank and Joe, and their adventures solving mysteries with their friends in Bridgeport, it’s not as much as in Wednesday. But there’s a lot of danger, secrets, and relying on the power of friends to overcome the evil forces who threaten not only the town, but the world. It’s also an exceptionally well-done series that evokes a Stranger Things 80s feel, just without the Upside Down.
