Use Your iPhone to See St. Augustine’s Spooky Side

Okay, I think Smartphones are pretty cool. I haven’t admitted this to anyone before, but I’m fessing up now: I secretly want an iPhone.

At the moment I can’t afford one, and Heaven only knows what I’d do with one if I got it. (Likely get in more trouble than I need!) Actually, here’s what I already know I’d use my iPhone for:

And that’s just for starters. The more things I find out that you can do with an iPhone, the more I want one.

It happened again this morning. I read “Oldest City in America Introducing Newest Technology” and learned about another app I’d definitely equip my iPhone with:  the St. Augustine iPhone App featuring the Shivers and Awe Tour, “St. Augustine’s first GPS-enabled ghost tour.”

That is just too cool.

“The Shivers and Awe tour on the iPhone is ideal for visitors and locals to enjoy,” said Jeff Swyers, President of GeoQuest Technologies. “Tourists and residents will be engaged and entertained by this tour of paranormal St. Augustine.” ~From St.Aug News Dec. 11, 2009~

If you already are lucky enough to have an iPhone, the Shiver and Awe Tour is available free on Apple iTunes.

To learn more about St. Augustine visit OldCity.com. (There’s a link on the site that also takes you to the iPhone app if  the one above doesn’t work for some reason.)

I also found this promotional video for the Shivers and Awe Tour company when I visited both the app site and the SA G.P.S. Adventure Tours site. (The video’s not very good though. I mean, the quality of the production is fine, but the content is lacking. It doesn’t emphasize the paranormal tourism aspect enough –heck, hardly at all. St. Augustine is RIPE with intriguing images that they sort of include in flashes. Sort of. It focuses way too much on the lady in bed, which I think really takes away from their ultimate message and business concept. Didn’t know you were going to get a Courtney Critique in this post too, eh? Consider it an added bonus…and don’t say I never gave you anything!)

  1. Very nice find! That’s a cool promo video–I agree that the visuals weren’t very spooky–waaaaayyyy too bright–needed to darken it and make it shadowy and confusing what you’re seeing in the dark, but otherwise, very shivery!

I was WAY excited to find out about this. I think it’s a simply stellar idea. I hope it’s just the first and we see LOTS more of this sort of thing. (Well…as soon as I get my own iPhone that is! 😉 Oh, and GREAT suggestion about the too bright. I hadn’t noticed that part, but you are correct!
