Today Tony Hastings of The Top 10 Blog posted my guest blog, “Top 10 U.S. Towns for Taking a Ghost Tour.”
Whew! As I stated in the guest post, it was hard to pick just 10!

As I also stated in the post, I picked the towns I did by the amount of ghost tours companies per city.
The most ghost tour companies operating in a city were four. These were the cities that then automatically made the list:
- Charleston
- Gettysburg
- New Orleans
- Seattle
- St. Augustine
THREE
Okay, that gave me half my list easy. The hard part came next: deciding between the cities that had at least three ghost tour companies. Here’s the ones I had to choose from:
- Savannah
- Chicago
- San Diego
- Bisbee and Tombstone (I cheated a little and combined these because between them they had three and they’re not that far apart from each other)
- Washington D.C.
- San Antonio
- Dallas/Ft. Worth
ELIMINATIONS
I ended up eliminating Chicago and Washington, D.C. Why? Because I could only have 10 and two needed to go.
Also, I’ve seen D.C. and Chicago make other top haunted places lists, but I rarely see any towns from Texas. (Excluding some of their Halloween haunted attractions. Those always score high.)
Yet, Texas has some really great haunts and neat looking ghost tours too. I decided I’d shake my list up and add some places people might not be as familiar with.
“WHOOSPIE” STRIKES AGAIN!
However, Chicago is the one I’ll probably most regret leaving off. Not only because it’s a town brimming with ghost lore and excellent ghost tours, but also because, based on my “Top 10 Towns” picking criteria, it technically should’ve automatically made the list.
Yesterday as I was researching haunt jaunts for an article I submitted to Duluth Superior Magazine, I came across a fourth tour company offering haunted tours in Chicago: Absolute Chicago Segway Tours, which offers a Haunted Tour every Thursday night.
Whoops. My bad.
To Chicago and all of you ghost enthusiasts out there who love roaming the Windy City, please accept my apologies for my oversight!

Galveston’s CVB needs to hire you! I have always wanted to visit there, but because I’ve heard you talk about it so much I want to even more! I’ve been to Chi town a bunch but I’ve never done one of the ghost tours either. If you do take one, I’ll be curious to hear about it!
