Screaming for Ice Cream: Haunted Ice Cream Parlors

Since July is National Ice Cream Month, I thought it’d be fun to jaunt (even if only virtually) to some haunted ice cream parlors.

I didn’t actually know of any offhand, but look what Google turned up:

• Reid’s Ice Cream Factory – According to Long Island Oddities, Reid’s wasn’t an ice cream factory per se, but more of “a warehouse for the company’s Brooklyn made product.” Rumors of a haunting sprung up from an exotic dancer killed there. It ended up being an abandoned property that was leveled in 2003. However, Long Island Oddities collected some really neat, creepy pics, as well as a story of a workman’s experience with unusual activity, on a jaunt to check out this alleged haunt. It was also investigated by Long Island Paranormal Investigators. They posted pics and EVPs they captured during their investigation. And I found mention after mention of a lady with no eyes who roams the road and grounds where the factory once stood.
• Haunted Ice Cream Parlor in Cape May – In his blog post, “The Ghosts of Cold Spring Village,” medium Craig McManus wrote about a ghost he spotted at the ice cream parlor. Ghosts I should say. After he told the clerk helping them about the ghost, he was permitted to tour the upper floors of the house the ice cream parlor had taken over. That’s when he sensed another one, the ghost of a child.
• Haunted House Ice Cream– I guess a company out of the U.K. called Lyons Maid produced these “ice cream bricks” in the 1970s. According to Wikipedia, the ice cream was white and wrapped up. You didn’t know if you were about to eat Frankenstein’s Monster, a spook, a skeleton, a spider and web, some bats, a wicked witch or a creature until you opened it. Sounds fun. I would’ve indulged in that growing up. (Heck, who am I kidding? I’d indulge in it now!)
• Ice Cream and Scooby Doo – This is not a real haunt, but I’ve always loved Scooby Doo. This was a fun write up I came across that talked about “ice cream ghosts” Scoob and the gang stumbled upon at the Happy Humor Ice Cream Factory in one episode.

Courtney Mroch

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, as well as obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days.
