After exploring Ensenada’s tourist section, we decided to take a little waterfront path back to our boat. Almost immediately I spied something intriguing. It was a towering thing that most definitely appeared to be made up at least partially of bones.
As we approached, I fired up my camera and shot this video:
I didn’t know if the bones were the remains of an actual beast or an artist’s sculpture. (Turns out, they’re a bit of both.) All I knew is my heart raced with excitement because I’d never seen anything like it before.
My initial reaction was “WTF is that thing? Could it be chupacabra remains?” (Because in the research I did before we left, I discovered Ensenada was home to the remains of two alleged mummified chupacabras.)
So of course I had to do a funny pose with it.
In hindsight, my horsing around was disrespectful.
As I detailed in our travel adventures in Ensenada, I ended up discovering this odd figure was not chupacabra remains. I’ve been wanting to dedicate a post to the Whale Man and his message. Now I finally am.
THE EYE
This eye was at the bottom of the Whale Man statue. I’m not sure what it says, but I gathered enough to know it had to do with the Whale Man’s message.
THE WHALE MAN’S MESSAGE
Rather than rehash the story, above is the picture of the plaque explaining the Whale Man’s creation and purpose. It is beautiful.
Mr. Whale Man, please forgive my initial ignorance for not realizing you were a messenger of conservation, humanity, and love. Please accept this post as me doing my part in spreading your message and honoring your legacy.
