Movie Monday: No One Dies in Lily Dale

A little bee buzzed me about a film premiering tonight at 9 p.m. on HBO: No One Dies in Lily Dale. It’s part of the HBO Documentary Film Summer Series.

Here’s the teaser I was sent that immediately piqued my interest:

Located just south of Buffalo, tiny Lily Dale, NY, is home to the world’s largest concentration of mediums, people who claim to be able to communicate with spirits of the deceased. Every year, thousands of visitors from all over the world flock to this quaint Victorian community to have their questions answered and grief assuaged. Directed by Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Steven Cantor (HBO’s “Devil’s Playground”), NO ONE DIES IN LILY DALE follows visitors on their emotional quests, chronicling their mysterious and deeply personal interactions with the town’s unusual residents.

When we lived in Jacksonville, Florida we’d head down to Orlando quite a bit. We had to pass by Cassadaga. (If Wayne was driving this was the point in our journey when he’d develop a lead foot. I always loved stopping there. Him, not so much.)

I wasn’t aware Cassadaga had a(n unofficial) sister city up north. This Lily Dale seems like another place I’d like to Haunt Jaunt to. (And I’d take Nathan from A State of Mind and Brenda from Heart Centered Psychic with me and leave that silly old Willy at home! Aw heck, I’d take anyone with me who’d be interested in going. We’ll designate the comment section as the sign up sheet, ‘kay?)

Sadly, we have not HBO. However, I’ll watch for it to come out on DVD and reserve it in my Netflix queue accordingly. For now I’ll have to make due with the trailer.

Courtney Mroch

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, as well as obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
