Movie Monday: Mysterious Clown Sightings Inspire Horror Movie

Earlier this month I wrote about a clown named Gags who was haunting Green Bay. All of a sudden he just started showing up in the wee hours on Green Bay’s streets. What was up with this mysterious clown sighting?

It seems Gags was a copy cat –who was also spawning more copy cats. (Which I’ll write more about in another post.)

But why? What’s behind the mysterious clown sightings phenomena?

Clown Week, Halloween, or Publicity Stunt?

Which of the three would you guess?

Since this particular mysterious clown sighting happened in August, I ruled out Halloween. (Although some of the others happened during Halloween season. Again, more on that in a forthcoming post.)

I was firmly of the opinion that Green Bay’s Gags the Clown had something to do with National Clown Week.

Is Gags Celebrating Clown Week?

Personally, I think Gags will be a one-week wonder. Did you know that the first week in August is National Clown Week?

It’s true. They have a website and everything: NationalClownWeek.org.

There’s also a National Clown Day, which, according to the National Clown Day site, is celebrated the first Saturday of National Clown Week.

So if Gags disappears after tomorrow, we’ll all know why.

Maybe it did. Maybe it was planned that Gags started to appear during Clown Week, but once again I’m having to admit I was wrong. (Not the first time; won’t be the last.)

If you guessed it was actually all part of a publicity stunt, you’re a smart cookie. Nailed it!

Gags Trailer

Curious to see if there had been any more Gags sighting since the end of Clown Week, I checked out his Facebook page for updates.

That’s when I saw posts about merchandise, and the Watch Video button for the Gags short horror movie trailer.

Have there been any mysterious clown sightings in your city?
Have you taken a jaunt in search of a mysterious clown?

Beware if you partake in such an adventure. As the Gags movie suggests, you might have one follow you home…
