Ghost Hunting and Other Spirited Events page, I noticed there were some real haunted places hosting Halloween parties that were open to the public. I thought that’d make a fun post.
So if you’d like to boogie with other ghouls and goblins whose costumes may or may not be real (because there may or may not be real people wearing them), here’s where you’ll want to head:
2nd Annual Halloween Party at the Haldeman Mansion
According to their About page, the Haldeman Mansion was built above the ruins of a Conoy Indian Village in the 1700s, and is located mere yards from an Indian burial ground.
It is the birthplace of Samuel S. Haldeman, who was a naturalist, philologist, linguist and scientist. He helped write the Webster’s dictionary and associated with the likes of Sigmund Freud and Charles Darwin.
Paranormal activity captured at the mansion includes EVPs of children and adults, recordings of footsteps, and reports of shadow figures throughout the mansion as well as in the summer kitchen.
For their party, they’re going to have prizes, treasure hunts, scare dares, costume contest, food plus a paranormal investigation.

The Asylum Ball at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
Okay, so this isn’t technically a real “haunted house” in the sense of being a haunted mansion or the like. However, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was “home” in a sense to the patients who once lived there. Some of whom who eventually checked out and moved on to other facilities, and others who “checked out” in the most permanent sense: death –but whose spirits are still rumored to call the asylum home.
It’s been featured on SyFy’s Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters Academy, the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Challenge. Paranormal activity reported includes sightings of apparitions and unexplainable voices and sounds.
The Asylum Ball will have live entertainment, a costume contest, and prizes (which are tickets to their Halloween Ghost Hunt). Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase inside the venue. BYOB if you want spirits of a liquid variety.

Fourth Annual Espiritu de la Noche Masquerade Ball at Victoria’s Black Swan Inn
This 150 year old mansion epitomizes Southern elegance. It also harbors a lot of history within its walls. Before its incarnation as a modern day elegant wedding venue, it served as the home to some of San Antonio’s most prominent people. Before it was even built, however, it was the site of the Battle of the Salado in 1842, which “checked the last Mexican invasion of Texas and thereby prevented the capture of Austin, capital of the Republic of Texas.”
Activity reported here includes full-body apparitions, dolls moving, doors opening and closing by themselves and cold spots.
Costumes are not optional at this event. They’re mandatory. Dinner and entertainment will be provided. So will mischief, mystery and mayhem from what they’re promoting on their event page.

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, as well as obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors.
