Previously I wrote about things we saw on our Haunt Jaunt to St. Louis, one of which was the Lemp Mansion. I decided to take some video while we were there. I was hoping to play around with creating a travel commentary of sorts.
However, I couldn’t get my camera to auto focus. It was set up to do it (and had been doing it), before we got to the Lemp Mansion. But the second I tried to zoom in and focus on the building, starting with the sign on the side of it, I could not make my camera focus.
Things didn’t get better until I crossed to the other side of the street and zoomed back out. Then I got a clear shot of the house.
It was really weird, because I’ve never had that happen quite like that before. It’s gone blurry on me, but then it always adjusts and pulls back into focus. It was the craziest thing. And it was really pissing me off because I wanted to get a good video.
The blurring wasn’t the only trouble I ran into, though. To be fair, there was a lot of operator error.
- I tilted the camera to try and get a better shot of the portico on the other side of the house thinking the camera would adjust to the perspective. I was wrong.
- I didn’t hold the camera steady. Lots of shaking. Will have to work on that in the future.
- All I did was get some shots of the outside of the house. (And blurry ones at that.) Big whoop. Would’ve been better to get inside. Maybe even get an interview with an owner or manager or even a guest or something.
Oh, and my “guest stars” were less than excited we made the detour before heading home. Their lack of enthusiasm compared to my glee at just even getting to see the outside of the infamous Lemp Mansion is almost comical.
Oh well. It was a first effort. I learned what I’d do differently next time.

That’s to bad! I know how much it sucks when technical difficulties ruin your jaunt. When we went to New Orleans my NEW camera wouldn’t focus. OH it looked focused at the time of taking pictures, but when we got them back everything was blurry. I was SOOOO MAD! Serves me right for using a new camera that I hadn’t learned yet 🙂
Awesome! Lemp Mansion is lovely and your dog is very cute. I like the music for your video. One of my favorite DS games is teenage zombies and the music is very similar. Every time I here that music I get ready fo fight the Aliens,.

Jessica: THANKS! Anyone who says my dog is cute scores big bonus points with me! (Towards what I don’t know…but if you should ever need them you now have them! =) I wish we could’ve gone inside. It was so pretty looking. I don’t think I’d ever get any work done if I had that DS game. I love those things! (I have some Resident Evil games for Wii and I like to kill the zombie-ish monsters on those! So fun to know another Z lover!)
Aw heck, Brenda. Late comments are always welcome…especially if you’re going to compliment my pup. I am a biased mom who adores her fur son to pieces, so anyone who makes a fuss over my Murph is IN like Flynn with me! LOL
I’d love to stay there. I’ve known several people who have. One of these days maybe we can leave Murph with a sitter and go up there to see our friends and stay one night there as well. Would be a blast!
