Did I Catch an EVP Before the Quebec Ghost Tour?

Hocus pocus, I snapped him out of focus. Meet John, our Ghost Tours of Quebec guide (It was during his intro I thought I heard an EVP)

The other day I finally got around to piecing together the footage I took during our Ghost Tours of Quebec experience and made a little video of it. (It’s posted below.)

However, afterwards, as I was driving to a volleyball game, I got to thinking about one part I had made of fun of during the video. It’s around the 35 second mark when the guide is saying what we can expect on our tour.

At one point a lady goes, “Ooooh!” in sort of an excited, mysterious way. It fits with what the guide was saying. He had just said he promised to tell us ghastly tales and make our experience as entertaining as possible.

I added in some caption saying, “Wait? Was that just an EVP?”

It easily could’ve been one of the other 13 people on our tour. Except…I didn’t chuckle.

If you know me and watch any of my videos you know I laugh. A lot. And at almost everything.

I did not chuckle after the woman (I’m assuming it’s a woman because that’s what it sounds like) says, “Ooooh!”

That’s what I got to thinking about on the drive to my game. If I had heard it, I would’ve chuckled.

I can point out three examples just in this video alone of why I say I would’ve laughed:

  1. At about 21 seconds I ask Wayne what he thinks about the ghost tour and he makes me laugh with his sarcasm.
  2. At just before the two minute mark, as we’re walking through the super secret alleyway tunnel entrance to the Musée de la Civilisation’s courtyard, someone behind me mimmicks a stereotypical ghost moan. I laugh.
  3. At around the two minutes and 25 second mark there’s a loud bang and Wayne jokes that someone’s been shot. Guess what? I laugh again.

I’m fairly certain if I had heard that lady’s exclamation during the guide’s intro I also would’ve laughed.

Plus, if my husband, who was sitting next to me, would’ve heard it, he would’ve made a comment. Maybe not right at that moment (especially if someone was within earshot who he wouldn’t have wanted to offend), but after as we were walking to hear the first of the ghost stories on our tour. He didn’t.

I also don’t recall anyone sitting behind us. There were a couple of people across the aisle behind us, but that was sort of a low sound. I don’t believe my camera’s mic would’ve caught such a clear noise from across the aisle.

However, it’s quite possible someone was behind us and I just don’t remember.

Or did I catch an EVP and the Port de Québec Cruise Terminal has some paranormal activity no one told us about?

Which is possible, since it sits along the St. Lawrence river, where, as our guide explained, very near to the terminal and our ship there were some tragedies that are thought to have left ghosts behind. It’s possible one of those ghosts may be haunting the terminal, isn’t it?

Take a listen and see what you think. EVP or mistaken tour goer identity?

Oh, Jack, THANK YOU for trying to break it down and figure it out!!!! What an interesting observation about the lantern. It’s a possibility. I know I’ll never know for sure if it was one of the people going on the tour or something “else” but it did sort of strike me as odd the more I thought about it. Truly when I was adding the caption in when editing the video I just joked about it being an EVP…then I started thinking about it and now I’ll never know!

It’s most likely a real person…biut it’d be cool if it wasn’t! My first unintentionally captured EVP! (But can’t claim it as such because of all the stuff you pointed out. Still…gave us something to think about, right?)

  2. ISAW THE VIDEO. AND SOUND LIKE SOMEONE SAY OOOH.SOMEONE WHO TOKE THE GOST TOUR.AND AT THE END OF YOUR VIDEO. SOUND LIKE SOMEONE EMPTY THE TRASH IN THE DUMPTSER.

  3. You’ve really got an ear for these things. I would have missed that entirely.
