While I was searching out haunted Christmas-named places I came across a delightful Christmas ghost story: the tale of the Mistletoe Bride. It hails from England, a land rich in wonderful ghost stories.
I came across it while searching for haunted places named “Mistletoe.” That search led me to “The Mistletoe Bride of Brockdish” on Haunted Norfolk. It’s a blog about ghosts and legends of the English county of Norfolk.
This one is apparently “shared” by many halls throughout England. It is the story of a couple who were celebrating their wedding during a Christmas party by playing hide and seek. She hid in a chest, but her groom never found her. The lid locked shut and perhaps she suffocated before she could scream for help to be let out?
At any rate, she died and was only discovered when the chest was many years later. Imagine that person’s shock when they opened it to find a corpse wearing a wedding gown inside!
I also found a delightful short clip on YouTube about the Mistletoe Bride. It shows images of the ruins of one of the rumored halls where this legend supposedly took place.
It embellish the story even farther to tell how the groom, thinking his bride ran off with another man, died himself of a broken heart. Simply tragic!
